Curved Forged Tine

Curved Bale Spears — Optimized Insertion Angle for Dense Bales

CURVED FORGED TINE

Curved forged tines provide a better entry angle into dense round bales, reducing the penetration force required and improving load stability when lifting bales from the ground. The curved geometry means the tip of the tine enters the bale at a shallower angle, which reduces the risk of bale damage and makes it easier to center the load on the spear. For operators working with high-density silage bales or large-diameter hay bales, the curved tine is often the preferred choice over a straight tine. Like our straight tines, curved tines are forged from spring steel and heat-treated for a controlled balance of hardness and fatigue resistance. The curved form is forged in a single die operation — not bent after forging — which preserves the grain structure integrity of the steel throughout the curve. Available in Square, Round, Double-T, and Star profiles with a radius range that matches standard bale spear geometry. Curved tines are particularly well-suited to telehandler bale spears and front-end loader applications where the operator approaches bales from a low angle. The geometry reduces the vertical lift required to achieve full penetration, improving cycle time and reducing strain on the loader hydraulics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Curved tines are preferred when working with high-density bales, when approaching bales from a low angle, or when load stability during lifting is a priority. The curved geometry reduces penetration force and improves bale centering on the spear. Straight tines remain the standard choice for general-purpose applications where approach angle is not a constraint.
Profile selection depends on the receiver tube on your loader or telehandler. Square and Double-T profiles are most common on European loader systems. Round profiles are widely used on North American equipment. Star profiles provide additional torsional rigidity for heavy-duty applications. Send us your receiver tube dimensions and we will confirm the correct specification.
Radius ranges by profile: Square 680–900mm, Double-T 680–900mm, Round 400–780mm, Star 680–900mm. Custom radii can be arranged for OEM orders.
Yes. Curved tines use the same mounting thread and receiver tube dimensions as straight tines. They are compatible with JCB, Manitou, Merlo, John Deere, Kubota, Weidemann, Krone, and other major loader brands. Please provide receiver tube dimensions when ordering.

The curved form is forged in a single die operation — not bent after forging. This preserves the grain structure integrity of the steel throughout the curve, which is important for fatigue resistance under repeated loading cycles.
